Jennie Mathews Savage was born October 15, 1855, at Stafford, Monroe County, Ohio. She removed to Kansas with her parents, locating in Johnson County. She was married to Peter Savage March 16, 1887, who survives to mourn her loss.
She was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church at the age of 14 years, and remained a faithful and earnest Christian. Hers was a triumphant death; she was conscious her time had come, but she was ready and gave testimony to the supporting grace of God. She has been a constant sufferer for the last five years, but bore it all uncomplainingly and still showed her sympathy for others. Before her sickness she was an excellent nurse. She died September 20, 1896.
The sermon was preached at Union Chapel, six miles east from here, by her pastor, Rev. John Endacott, of DeSoto, a large congregation being present to show their respect to the deceased. Interment was in the Lexington Cemetery.
