Eugene L. (Gene) Minter, Sr., 78, of Valdosta died on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at South Georgia Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born on October 9, 1936 in Wilkinson County, Georgia to the late Thomas and Eurabell Booth Minter and has been a resident of this area since 1960. He was retired from Lowndes County Public Works Department as a site attendant and was of the Baptist faith. He liked to fish and loved and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Vickie Minter; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Terry Hart, Lee and John Wisenbaker, Lisa Swann, and Belinda and David Eudy; a son and daughter-in-law, Lin and Tracy Minter all of Valdosta; step-children and their spouses, Terry and Carol Brown of Valdosta, Donna and Darrell Kimbrell of Douglasville, Georgia, Brenda and Steve May of South Carolina, Sam Booth, and Ferman Wiliford of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, David, Jr. and John Swann, John, Jr., Jarid, Jodi, and Will Wisenbaker, Kelly Montgomery, Haley Knudson, Greg and Justin Minter, Linden and J. Ray Minter; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Joseph and Molly Minter of Douglas, Georgia, and John Minter of Macon, Georgia. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Genie Minter; a granddaughter, Nola Swann, and his first wife, Janette Minter.

A graveside service for Gene Minter will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Steve Ward officiating.
