Hold Rites for Mrs. Amy Hartley, 58

 

Funeral rites for Mrs. Amy Hartley, of Chicago, resident of Toulon a number of years ago, were held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Johnson's Chapel in Galva. Mrs. Hartley passed away at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon at Galesburg Cottage hospital after being ill the past 14 weeks. Rev. John Clark of Knoxville, was in charge of the services and burial was in LaFayette cemetery.

"In the Garden" and "Ivory Palaces" were sung by Mrs. Florence Best, accompanied by Mrs. Verna Bowman Anderson.

Pall bearers were Ivan Jones, Walter Jones, Clarence Jones, Robert Cree, Maurice Hammerstrand and Donald Hammerstrand.

Amy Cree, daughter of Simeon and Eva Lowe Cree, was born February 15, 1887, south of LaFayette. She moved to Toulon in 1901 and attended local schools. She was married in 1907 to Lee Hartley, who died a number of years ago.

Mrs. Hartley went to Chicago from Toulon where she was engaged in the millinery business for 30 years until ill health made it necessary for her to discontinue her work.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. George Jones of Galva and Mrs. Frank White of Kewanee; three brothers, Ralph Cree and Carl Cree, twins of Victoria, and Bert Cree of Redfield, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Martha Cree.
