Son of Sir John Allen and Lady Elizabeth Alabaster. Edmund married Martha Glascock. One of the four brasses in the Chancel is of Martha.

Edmund and Martha had at least one son Edward, born 1581 and died 26 Oct 1638 in London.

"Edmund Allen, Gent., eldest son of John and Elizabeth (Alabaster) Allen, inherited the ancestral estates at Thaxted, and Hatfield Peverell, and died 12 Sept. 1616; married first, Martha Glascock, who died 5 June 1593, daughter and coheiress of John Glascock of Powers Hall in Witham, co. Essex; married second, Alice (-) Shipton, who died in 1633/4.

Mr. Allen was uncle of Jane Allen, first wife of Rev. Peter Bulkeley. His will, made 19 Feb. 1615/6, proved 27 Sept. 1616, called him of Hatfield Peverell, and mentioned the gravestone of his great-grandfather Gyles Leigh; legacies to wife Alice; cousin Alabaster Wentworth; son Edward Allen; daughter Elizabeth Castell; daughter Mary Hall; to son Robert Castell, Gent., the manor called Bowers in Woodham Walter, Essex, and to Robert's sons, Robert and Edmund; six granddaughters, Martha Alleyn, Constance, Martha and Elizabeth Castell, and Margaret and Martha Hall; son Edward's three sons, Edmund, George and Robert; to "Mr. Buckley," £10.1

His second wife made her will 15 Apr. 1633, proved 12 Feb. 1633/4, in which she mentioned only her own relatives. I Children, all by first wife: i. EDWARD, b. in 1586; of Hatfield Peverell, created a Baronet, 24 June 1629; d. in 1638 ;$ m. Elizabeth, dau. and coheiress of George Scott of Little Leighs, Essex. Children:

* She was probably sister of Edmund Alabaster, Esq., who held the manors of Tendring or Old Hall and Gernons in Wix, co. Essex, and died 7 Sept. 1560. The family name was also spelled Alblaster and Arblaster. Jane, daughter and coheiress of Edmund Alabaster, married Henry Wentworth, and was mother of the Alabaster Wentworth who was called "cousin" in Edmund Allen's will.
