Colleen was raised with her brothers, Pat Jr. and Jimmy, and her sister, Anna Bess on a sheep ranch in west Texas. She often told stories about life in those days with no electricity or running water, and the family's pet skunk, that her father rescued as a baby. Regardless of the hardships, she loved life on the ranch and developed an affinity for animals that remained for the rest of her life.
She met Mayer at Goodfellows AFB when she was a civilian secretary, and he was a young pilot. They married on Oct. 19, 1957 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas. Ceremony was at Goodfellows AFB Chapel, with a reception at the Officer's Club. Thus, beginning her long career as a devoted military wife. During the Vietnam War, she raised Joe and Leah, while Mayer did 3 tours of duty.
Colleen's greatest joy was her family, spending time with them and cooking for them; and she always welcomed visitors and fed anyone that Mayer, Joe, and Leah brought home. Colleen was the greatest cook in the world, and loved feeding a crowd. Even in her last years, when her mobility was limited; she was always more concerned with the comfort of everyone else. She would check to make sure that her home health care workers had eaten before their shift started, and were comfortable, along with anyone that stopped by.
She and Mayer moved from Vienna, VA to Gainesville, FL after his retirement in 1985. She always enjoyed jumping into the family car for day trips to wherever and trying new places to eat along the way.
Colleen is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Col. Mayer Littman (USAF ret); her son, Joseph Littman of Sterling, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Leah DePriest and her husband, Mickey, of Fairfax, VA; and her grandson, Ryan. She is also survived by her sister, Anne Burnham of Leesburg, VA and her many loving nieces and nephews and their families.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday, December 18, 2015 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at Forest Meadows Funeral Home. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on March 16, 2016 with services at the chapel.
