"The funeral of Dayton Phinney was held on Monday, Oct. 13 (1913), from the Methodist church here (Windfall). His death which was very sudden occurred in the dentist's chair at Canadaigua after he had had some teeth extracted.* He was 37 years old and leaves a widow and four small children, a father, step-mother, four sisters and one brother, besides a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Rev. Wenrick of Canton, spoke very fittingly of the departed. Interment was in the cemetery here beside his son who died just eight years ago the day his father was buried." *Actually, Dayton left the dentist's office and crossed the street to a park and sat down on a bench and died. His death was due to shock from having several teeth pulled. He had a weakened heart from rheumatic fever his suffered in childhood.

Dayton Leslie Phinney was born in LeRoy Township, Bradford, Pennsylvania. He married Evangeline "Eva" May Loomis the daughter of Seth Loomis and Anna Fenton on 8 May 1901, at her parents' home in East Canton, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, with Rev. Henry Allen officiating.
