J. W. Bettis, who resided in this county for 29 years before going to Houston to make his home with a son, died in that city Monday, April 21. A retired farmer, he was 88 years of age.

John William Bettis was born in Tennessee February 8, 1869, and at the time of his death he was 88 years, two months and 13 days of age. Before he retired from active work, Mr. Bettis engaged in farming.

He was a member of the First Christian Church.

He is survived by three children: Mrs. John Sparks of Houston, Mrs. Louis Altenburg of Dallas, and W. A. Bettis of Parnell. Thirteen grandchildren also survive.
