William Albert (Al) Bettis, 90 year old retired cowboy, died at 2:18 p.m. Saturday, March 14 in Collingsworth General Hospital. A cowboy for most of his active life, Mr. Bettis was with the Mill Iron Ranch for many years and the E.W. Blain Ranch immediately across the state line in Oklahoma. He also farmed for a number of years in the Shinnery community.

Born October 7, 1890, near Lebanon, TN, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William J. Bettis and came with them to Texas in 1900, settling at Garland. Mr. Bettis moved to Collingsworth County in 1912 from Mangum, OK.

He was married to Clara Alta James on December 28, 1918, in Wellington. They were the parents of three sons and three daughters, James Albert, William Elbert, Clara Louise, Edwin Leon, Maxine Janell and Sharon Ann.
