He was born March 3, 1928, in Johnston County to the late D. Hunter and Lena Creech Denning. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Clara Norris Denning; a brother, Deleon Denning; and a sister, Annie Laurie Lewis. Mr. Denning was a farmer and was a member of Benson PFWB Church.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Benson PFWB Church by the Rev. Glenn McCullen. Burial will follow at Denning Family Cemetery, Benson.
Survivors include his daughter, Ann Denning Smith of Greenville; son, Doug Denning and wife Diane of Benson; brother, Joe Denning of Benson; sister, Jane D. Hardee of Oxford; grandchildren, Brianna Gee and husband George, Dustin Denning, Ryan Denning and wife Kim, Kelly Smith and husband Kevin; great-grandchildren, Ava Gee, Clara Gee, Hailey Denning, Noah Gee, Jordyn Denning, Abigail Smith, Walter Smith and Anna Gee; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Benson, and other times at the home.
Flowers are welcome, however, the family suggests memorials may be made to Benson PFWB Church Senior Citizens Account, c/o Rachel Denning, P.O. Box 442, Benson, NC 27504.
