Betty J. Jorgenson, age 87 of Austin died Friday morning, December 4, 2015 at Wellington Place in Decorah, IA at the age of 87.
Betty Jean (Winslow) Jorgenson was born on June 14, 1928 in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of Ralph and Myrtle Jeanette (Hyland) Winslow. She graduated from Austin High School with the class of 1946. Betty was united in marriage to Eugene Jorgenson on January 25, 1947 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, in Austin, Minnesota. They were blessed with three children: Jayne, Nancy, and Gregg. Betty worked at Hormel’s, Nate’s Clothing, Schaub Chiropractic, Robbin’s Furniture, and East Side Red Owl. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, was active at the Austin Senior Center and was a member of the Sons of Norway.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Eugene on November 4, 2006; one grandson Kyle Jorgenson on August 25, 2002; one sister, Ruth Hoffman; and one brother, Marvin Winslow.
Betty is survived by her three children, Jayne Noble of Spring Lake Park, MN; Nancy Jorgenson of Gig Harbor, WA; Gregg (Gwen) Jorgenson of Decorah, IA; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren; and one sister, Karen (Jerry) Becker of Lake City, MN.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2015 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation begins on Saturday at 10:00 p.m., one hour before the service, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Six Mile Grove Cemetery in rural Lyle, MN. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
