NANCY L. BERGQUIST, On Monday, May 10, 1999 Nancy Lee Bergquist, 63, passed away quietly at her home in Williamsport after a brave battle with cancer. Born in Canton, April 20th, 1936, she was a daughter of Daniel Nels Bergquist and Bernice (Phinney) Bergquist. She was a woman who devoted her life to helping others, as was evident in her calling to the nursing profession. At the age of 16 she worked as a nurse's aide, saving her money to put herself through nursing school. After graduation from Canton High School in 1955 she entered nursing school and two years later embarked on her career as a registered nurse. Over the years she worked for the Red Cross in Syracuse, Troy Hospital and the former Blossburg Hospital. She was later employed by a nursing home in Herkimer, NY until her health failed in 1996. Surviving and brothers Daniel A. (Sue) Bergquist, Horseheads, NY, William J. (Claudia) Bergquist, Florida; sisters, Ruth E. (William) Ward, Rochester, NY; Doris I. (Raymond) Koehler, Rochester; Mary Lou (Scott) Wheeler, Canton; Evangeline (George) Card, Williamsport. Special friend Leora Wilcox; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held May 15 at the Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, 40 N. Center St., Canton. Interment was in Windfall Cemetery. –Canton Independent Sentinel.
