Edward Leslie Carpenter, a retired operator with Allied Chemical, died at 9 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2003, at his residence in Walker. He was 81 and a native of Doyle. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survived by his wife of 59 years, Annie K. Carpenter, Walker; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny Dale and Linda Yoder Carpenter, Venezuela, and Lanny Ray and Sandra Herring Carpenter, Dillon, S.C.; a sister, Ida Carpenter Watts, Livingston; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Stephen, Bryan, Scott, Stacy, Joshua, Jamie and Samantha Carpenter; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents, Joseph F. and Sarah Broussard Carpenter; five brothers and five sisters.

He was a member of New Covenant Baptist Church, Denham Springs.
