This was a nice man who lived at the property I manage. Last week, his neighbors called me because they hadn't seen him. We broke into his home and found he passed away in his bed.

He was a retired Chicago fireman. The coroner said he was found in an alley as a baby and a policeman brought him to an orphanage. The orphanage gave him the last name of the officer that found him.

This picture was from the Chicago Tribune in 1985. He saved this baby from a burning building because people were jumping to escape. He was a hero until his superiors saw the picture and he was without any gear - he just ran up the ladder. He told me the story with so much pride and loved the fact my son was a Fire Explorer.

I do not have any relatives on file for him. Today, I went through his home with the coroner to try to find any family / last will information. Nothing. Just a home without any heat. If we cannot find any family, the VA will take care of him.

I wasn't going to say anything about this, but I wanted someone to remember him. He was one of the nicest people I have met in a long time. I hope he's resting in peace.

More information that a fellow Find A Grave friend left.
