Born in Saint Augustine, US Territory of Florida; daughter of Joseph Jacob Marks, Senior, from Cologne, Germany and of Margaret Jane "Peggy" Groves. By 1850 the family had moved to Washington DC where her father was a baker. In 1851 she married Daniel Simonds (1822-1900), whose parents were born in New Hampshire. Daniel was a fifer in the US Marine Corps, and then in the US Army, serving in several places, and re-enlisted in the Grand Army of the Republic,1st Regiment, District of Columbia Infantry in 1861. Later he worked as a musician, then as a copper roller, in Washington. Anna and Daniel were the parents of William (b 1852), Mary Ann Hamilton Simonds Darnall (1861-1941), Anna Marks Simonds Griffin (born 1864), Lewis William Simonds (1868-1923), Edward Primrose Simonds (1870-1920) and Edith Virginia Simonds Browning (1875 - 1928). Anna (Marks) Simonds died April 16, 1916 at Washington, D.C.
