Late Friday afternoon Mrs. Alice Thompson, one of our oldest settlers, closed her eyes upon the scenes of earth and went to join the great majority.
In the passing of this old and honored woman the town and country lost a pioneer. She had been a sufferer for several weeks.
Mrs. Alice Thompson was born in Chicasha, Miss, on February 4, 1853.
She came here with her parents from Mississippi when a young girl, they settling near Roxton.
On May 22, 1870, she was married to W. H. Thompson, who survives her.
Five children also survive.
The youngst child, Clyde, passed to the great beyond two years ago.
The children are: Mrs. Lizzie Baker, Mrs. Lou Mann, Ira, Benton, and William, Jr. Two brothers, William and John McBee, and two sisters, Mrs. Lewis Clark and Mrs. Curt Wilburn of Paris, and several grandchildredn also survive her.
She was a member of the Christian church 40 years.
Our people know well the loneliness of the devoted companion and the great burden of sorrw which rests upon him and the friends all hope that grace abundant may be given him for these trying hours, and our sympathy goes out to him and all of the bereaved.
The funeral was conducted at the residence Saturday afternoon by Rev. J. Leslie Finnel, Christian preacher of Paris, assisted by Rev. Ira C. Kiker, and Rev. Robert R. Robinson of Honey Grove. At the conclusion of the beautiful service the body was taken to Honey Grove, where burial was given in the Oakwood Cemetery. The floral offerings were beautiful.
