Allan Alexander, Crooks, SD, died November 14, 2015, at Sanford USD Medical Center. He was 70.

Allan Alexander was born June 19, 1945, at Volga, SD, to Albert and Virginia (Larson) Alexander. He was raised in the area, and worked with his parents on the family farm. He worked with teams of horses when farming, and in his youth, Allan was excited and proud to have gotten his first saddle horse. He took good care of his companion horse, and rode it frequently to visit friends and to run errands.

Following his graduation from Volga High School, Allan managed the Standard Station. A full-service station and shop, he worked in all aspects of the business.

On June 12, 1971, he was united in marriage to Helen Egeberg in Volga, SD. In the mid-1970s, he attended Mt. Marty College and earned a Bachelor and Master degree in Education. In the next several years, they lived in various communities where he made a career in public education administration. In 1990, the family moved to Crooks, SD, where Allan began welding with Gage, Miller Building Systems, and Sunderman Manufacturing. Helen passed away on March 22, 2007, and Allan retired shortly thereafter.

In his free time, he enjoyed spending time in his shop tinkering and fixing things. He loved taking on repair and fabricating projects. Later in life, he returned to his passion of raising horses. He loved spending time riding. As he got into his older years, he again enjoyed working with horse teams.

An honest and upright man, Allan will always be remembered for his willingness to help anyone in need – at any hour of any day, he could always be counted on.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sons, Corrie Alexander and his wife, Stephanie, Crooks, SD, Leslie Alexander, Surprise, AZ; grandchildren, Kylie, Kolby and Colt Alexander; brothers, Kenneth Alexander and his wife, Marcy, Denver, CO, and Jerald Alexander and his wife, Marcia, Sioux Falls, SD.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Miller Funeral Home, Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street. Following the service and a time of fellowship, the interment will take place 1:30pm at the First Lutheran Church Cemetery, Volga, SD.
