Rev. James D. "Jim" Hilliard Jr., 69, of 7348 Barrens Road, N.W. Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Shenandoah, Va., on July 30, 1937 to the late James D. Hilliard, Sr. and the late Alice G. Comer Hilliard. He was an Ordained Evangelist with the Pentecostal Holiness Church for more than 45 years. He was a member of the New Life Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church in Roanoke, and a member of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn M. Hilliard, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda H. Lawrence and husband, Ronald of Stoneville, N.C.; one son, Kevin Hilliard of Roanoke; five sisters, Elizabeth Lloyd of Orange, Va., Betty Miller of Shenandoah, Dorothy Shifflett of Shenandoah, Martha Roy of Bristol, Tenn., and Barbara Saum of Harrisonburg; one brother, Charles Hilliard of Shenandoah; grandchildren, Benjamin Lawrence and Cameron Lawrence, both of Stoneville, N.C., Jorrian P. Hilliard of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2006 at the New Life Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church on Airport Road, Roanoke with the Rev. Walter Lee Wood, Bishop Kenneth Kingrea, and the Rev. Richard Kingrea officiating, burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. On Friday, August 25, 2006 the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at New Life Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at the home. Memorials may be made in Jim's memory to the Singing Hilliards, c/o Carolyn Hilliard, 7348 Barrens Road, Roanoke, Va. 24019. Howell Funeral Home of Patrick Springs in charge of arrangements.
