Andrew Jackson Miller

Andrew Jackson Miller was born October 11th, 1841 in Wayne County Illinois. He resided in this county during his entire life. He departed this life at ten o'clock a.m. January 19th, 1923, living to the ripe old age of 81 years, 3 months and 8 days.

He was a son of Samuel and Gillean Miller also Wayne county. He leaves the following brothers and sisters: Joseph Miller, Sims, IL. ; William Miller, Wayne City, IL. U.G. Miller, Hickory Plain, Ark,; Mary A. Talbert, Wayne City, IL. ; Louisa Annie Reed, Centralia, Martha J. Taylor, Sims, IL.

He was united in marriage to Melvina Johnson, January 23, 1863 and they lived many happy years together. To this union the following children were born. Mrs. Etta Barbee, Milton, Okla.; Thomas Miller, Wayne City, IL. Della Henson, Sims, IL. Edgar Miller, Harmon, IL. ; Edward Miller, Sims, IL. ;Andrew MIller, Wayne City, IL. ; Chris Miller, Chicago, IL. ; Clara Miller, Taylorville, IL. There were three who departed this life in infancy. He also leaves 39 grandchildren.

Mr. Miller was a soldier in the civil war and was a member of the G.A. R. He served for a length of time in actual service. He was a man who had the good will and respect of all who knew him. His friends were unlimited. He was a man of integrity and commanded respect wherever he went. He was honest and always made his word as good as his bond. He joined the Christian church at Wayne City and later on professed faith in Christ at the General Baptist church in Sims. He has been in poor health for several months and spent his last days at the home of his daughter Mrs. Della Henson.

The funeral was conducted by James Whitson at Pin Oak.
