Dorothy "LaNelle" Sheppard, 91, passed away peacefully from this life to be united with her husband, Retired Colonel William R. (Bud) Sheppard on Monday, November 9, 2015.

Funeral services will be 11:00a.m., Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South, Abilene with Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at 9:30a.m. Thursday morning prior to the service at the funeral home.

LaNelle was born on September 17, 1924 in Winters, Texas to Otis and Pearl Williams.

She grew up in Taylor County and married William R. Sheppard on March 12, 1944.

LaNelle took pride in being an officer's wife. No matter where the military took them, she did what she could to make a comfortable beautiful home and make her husband proud. They moved from Japan to New York, Hawaii, and Kansas before retiring in Abilene in 1965.

She was a fantastic cook and hostess.

LaNelle enjoyed being with family and friends and was a great homemaker.

She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed cooking, doing all kinds of crafts, and painted beautiful oil paintings.

Mrs. Sheppard spent many years as a Vice President at The Bank of Commerce in Abilene.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband and only love, Ret. Lt. Col. William R. "Bud" Sheppard; and her brothers, Leland and Loy Otis Williams.

Survivors include her daughter, Tanya Sheppard; her granddaughter, Lauren Bartolick both of Abilene; and many loved ones who called her "Gram".

Mrs. Sheppard was very grateful for the care she received at the end of her life at Merkel Nursing Center and from the good people at Hendrick Hospice Care. She was quick to express her gratitude and said "I love you" easily to those who cared for her.
