WALTER OSBORNE DIES IN IOWA
Walter D. Osborne, long-time DeSoto resident, died Saturday in Jane Lamb hospital in Clinton, Ia. where he had gone to attend the funeral of his wife's cousin, Mrs. Anna Jarboe. He was 67.
Mr. Osborne became ill last Thursday and was taken to the hospital. He was the father of Harold B. Osborne of 8215 Riley, Overland Park, and brother of Robert R. Osborne, Olathe.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the DeSoto Methodist Church, with burial in the DeSoto Cemetery. Rev. David Ellsworth, Eudora and Rev. George M. Boicourt, Baldwin, conducted the services.
Mr. Osborne was a native of Garnett, but had lived in DeSoto since 1899, when his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel T. Osborne moved there from his birthplace. He was then 10 years old, and grew to manhood on the farm, which is now part of the Sunflower Ordnance plant. He attended the Lexington township school as a youth.
In 1912 Mr. Osborne married Roxa B. Corliss of the Prairie Center community and they have lived on the farm west of DeSoto since that time.
Survivors include his wife; two sos, Harold and Donald V. Osborne of East Greenwich, R.I.; a daughter, Miss Helen A. Osborne of Memphis, Tenn.; his brother, Robert R. Osborne; three sisters, Mrs Hattie Hale of DeSoto; Mrs. Alberta Douglas of Pasadena, Calif. and Mrs. Agnes O'Brien of New York, and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Charles Nease, Louie Wycoff, Don Whitaker, Ernest Sigman and Ralph Bowling, all of DeSoto and Lee Coleman of Eudora. Organist was Guy Longstreth, and solosit, Ben Markley. Flower bearers were Vera Mae Weaver, Estelle Neilson, Golda DeCoteau, Florence Moomaw, Norma Lee Pratt, Margaret Holbert and Helen Edmunds.
