Milton attended schools in Oyens, IA and Sioux City Trinity High School. He then moved with his family to South Dakota. Milton was united in marriage to Geraldine Theel on March 14, 1939 in Little Flower Church in Sioux Falls, SD. They spent a number of years in New York State, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C. before returning to South Dakota. They then farmed for a short time and was later in business in LeMars, IA. After returning to Brookings he owned and operated Broadacre Mobile Home Park until his retirement.
He was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Parish, a Life member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, and the National and South Dakota Winnebago Club.
Milton is survived by his wife Geraldine of Brookings, SD; his children, James Gengler (Rita) of Worthington, MN, Patricia Vanderloo (Richard) of Sioux City, IA, Francis Gengler (Rolane) of Rapid City, SD, Kathleen Melby (Stuart) of Brookings, SD, Michael Gengler (Mary) of Colman, SD; 16 grandchildren and pallbearers, Jeff, Rick, Jim and John Vanderloo, Leslie Norman, Andy, Scott, Greg, Jeff, Nicholas and A.J. Gengler, Ben and Katie Melby, Krissy, Nick and Tim Sweeney; 15 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ashley, Hanna, Aiden, Jordan, Jaci, Bennett and Carter Vanderloo, Blake Lynch, Bryant, Matt and Alex Gengler, Elizabeth, Maria and Rachel Norman; one brother Francis Gengler of Brookings, SD; five sisters Lorraine Steffen of Ellsworth, WI, Dorothy Johnson of Arcadia, CA, Mary Katherine Adams (Clem) of San Leandro, CA, Rose Marie McTague of Aberdeen, SD, Lucille Seidl (Aut) of Sleepy Eye, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Margaret and one brother Arnold.
