Vincent Joseph Piazza is the son of Joseph "Joe" Piazza and Margherita "Marguerita" Lanella Piazza. Joseph "Joe" Piazza came to America from Italy in 1902 and he was a business man and in the retail grocery business in Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama, until he retired in 1950 and moved to Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama.

Vincent Joseph Piazza was the husband of Mary Pappas Piazza.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church for Vincent Joseph Piazza, 86, Glencoe, who died Tuesday, July 15, 1997. Father Charles Troncale (nephew) will officiate.

Burial in Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. Piazza was a native of Bisacquino, Sicily, immigrated to the United States in 1913, and had been a resident of Etowah County for the past 46 years. He was the owner and operator of Bama Supermarket. He was a parishioner of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an active member of Alabama Master Gardener.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Pappas Piazza; sons, Joe (Martha) Piazza, Warner Robbins, Ga., Tommy (Sheila) Piazza, South Pittsburg, Tenn., Paul (Elaine) Piazza, Gadsden, and Michael (Tammy) Piazza, Gadsden; daughters, Marguerite (Don) Kelly, Glencoe, Ann Koenig, Vernon, Conn., Sandra (Harold) Bogglo, Glencoe, Helene Piazza, Atlanta, Ga., Christine (Steve) Ford, Tuscaloosa; 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Lillie Troncale, Grace Troncale, Josie Saxon, Mary Lightcap and Angel Cashio, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Catholic School Endowment Fund.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Gadsden Regional Medical Center Hospice, Home Health Care and the doctors, nurses and staff of Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Jordan, Dr. Wayne Gibbs, Dr. Dinesh Parmar, Dr. Elliott Saitz and Dr. Kwan Wan-Fung.

The family will receive friends at St. James Catholic Church from 6 to 8 tonight, with Rosary Service at 7.
