He was born on April 6, 1936 in Oshkosh the son of Russell and Florence Coombs Coates. Roger married Ruth Olson on March 15, 1989 in Oshkosh.
Roger was a 1954 graduate of Oshkosh High School and was an independent insurance agent for many years. He had held the office of president and was active in the local United Cerebral Palsy Association.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Coates of Oshkosh; four children, Craig (Cindy) Coates and Mitchell (Marina) Coates both of Oshkosh, Dawn (Todd) Crawford of Milwaukee, Darren Coates of Oshkosh; seven grandchildren, (names omitted by conributor); one brother Ray Coates of Wisconsin Rapids; one sister Bonnie (William) Pettit of Oshkosh.
The funeral service will be on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at 6 p.m. at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home (Westside) with the Rev. Gregory Decker officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to the time of service. A memorial to the Cerebral Palsy of Mid East Wisconsin has been established.
