Loren R. Coates, 71, of Oshkosh died Wednesday September 17, 2003 at his home.

He was born in Oshkosh on April 21, 1932 the son of Russell and Florence Coombs Coates. On December 29, 1951 he married Shirley M. Hedtke at the Grace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. She preceded him in death on January 19, 1984.

Loren was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was a successful Prudential Insurance Agent in Oshkosh and had earned many awards. He retired after 32 years of service.

Loren had served is county in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict in an Anti-Submarine Squadron and Loren was a life-member of the AMVETS.

He is survived by his two sons, Brian L. (Jill) Coates and Timothy A. (Tammie) Coates, both of Oshkosh, a daughter Kathleen A. (Dan) Christofeson of Colorado Springs, CO, two brothers, Ray Coates of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Roger (Ruth) Coates of Oshkosh, a sister Bonnie (Bill) Pettit of Oshkosh, five grandchildren, (names omitted by contributor), and a special friend, Corrine Leichtfuss of Oshkosh.

His funeral will be Saturday September 20, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside with the Rev. Greg Decker officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. A memorial has been established.
