Hazel Sharp, 93, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 in a Kerrville care center.

She was born on April 8, 1916 in a farm house five miles east of Higgins, Texas. Hazel was the second child born to Harry and Agnes Goodman. In the fall of 1916, the family left their home near Higgins, in a covered wagon, to move to plot of land near Estancia, N.M. The six-week trip followed the railroad because her father knew there would be water available along the route. The Goodman family returned to the family farm near Higgins in the summer of 1921.

Following graduation from Higgins High School in 1934, she traveled to Amarillo by train to attend beauty school. Following cosmetology training, Hazel moved to Pampa, Texas, where she worked as a hairdresser. While living in Pampa, she met and married Loval Sharp on Sept. 30, 1939. In the years that followed, Hazel and Loval lived in Clovis, N.M., Long Beach, Calif., Henderson, Cresson and Littlefield, Texas. In 1955, she opened Hazel's Beauty Shop in Littlefield. Hazel continued to work as a hairdresser until her retirement in 1995. She traveled extensively and was an avid fan of the San Antonio Spurs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loval Sharp, and brother, Guy Goodman.

She is survived by her son, Larry Sharp and daughter-in-law Jeanette Sharp of Granbury; daughter, Jana Drane and son-in-law Stephen Drane of Kerrville; grandchildren, Stephen Sharp, Rodney Sharp, Michelle Sharp Crabtree, David Drane and Cristi Drane Chapman; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephew, Frank Goodman; and nieces, Beverly Richardson and Rene Plumb, all of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Visitation will be at Grimes Funeral Chapels on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 from 4 to 6 p.m. Graveside services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to favorite charity.
