Pioneer Woman Dies At Buffalo
Funeral services for Mrs. George Messinger, 85, were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday in the Buffalo Church of Christ. She died at Buffalo Sunday, November 4.
Evangelist Marion E. Thurman and Rev. Carroll McCoy officiated at the services. Interment was made in the Pleasant Valley cemetery under the direction of Byron Mason's Funeral Home.
Mary Josephine Ferguson, daughter of William and Mary Frances Ferguson, was born at Keytesville, Missouri on August 8, 1877. On April 4, 1895 she was married to George W. Messinger. They became the parents of nine children, two sons dying in infancy.
Mr. and Mrs. Messinger moved to Woods County, near Waynoka, in 1904 and then to Harper County in 1906. They settled 18 miles northwest of Buffalo and lived there until 1936, when they moved to a farm in Ellis County.
They retired in 1948 and moved into Laverne where she lived until two months ago, when due to ill health she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Harold Olmstead, in Buffalo. Mr. Messinger preceded her in death April 22, 1955.
Mrs. Messinger was a member of the Church of Christ in Laverne.
Survivors include three daughters Mrs. Ray Over, Liberal, Kans.; Mrs. Glenn Adams and Mrs. Harold Olmstead, both of Buffalo; four sons, Romax (Roma) Messinger, Anaheim, Calif.; Jay Messinger, Milton Freewater, Oregon; Delbert Messinger, Kimball, Nebraska; and Luther Messinger, Guymon; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
