Geneva McCulloch Hughes, 105, went home to be with her Lord October 17, 2015, at St. Catherine's Center in Waco, Texas.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, at Adams Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, October 22, at the First Baptist Church of Marlin. Burial will follow in Coleman City Cemetery in Coleman, Texas.

Geneva was born in Coleman, Texas, to the late William "Will" Nesbitt and Mary Myrtle (Green) McCulloch. She went to Howard Payne College for few years and graduated from Baylor University in 1931. At the time of her passing she was the oldest living Alumni of Baylor University. She also received a Master's degree from Howard Payne in the 1950s. On June 8, 1941, she married Dr. Sidney W. "Sid" Hughes.

Geneva was an educator for over 50 years. She taught school in Coleman, Brownwood, and 1-5th grade Music in Marlin Public Schools. After retirement from public school, she taught at St. John Episcopal School in Marlin. Geneva was a lifelong member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was also a lifelong member of the Baptist faith. Geneva was a member of the Henry Downs chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Red Hat Club, the Marlin Garden Club, the Lime Float Club at FBC, the Music Club, and the Baylor Heritage Club where she was Co-President with Dr. Hughes.

Bridge was one of her favorite things to do; she was an accomplished player and played in many bridge clubs. Geneva wrote a cookbook out long hand for her daughter, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter, and it's still in use. She was an accomplished pianist and played at several churches over the years. Geneva was an avid Baylor Bear fan and attended many games over the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Sidney W. "Sid" Hughes; and sister, Lorene Woodruff.

Survivors include her son, Mac Hughes and wife, Pam; and daughter, Maria Drews and husband, Roger; grandchildren: Nancy Walker and husband, Wesley, Chris Drews, Culley Hughes and wife, Christie, and Jeff Hughes and wife, Jennifer; great-grandchildren: Kolten, Kaegan, Kennadie Drews, Will and Olivia Walker, and Jillian, Julia, JC, and Jetta Hughes; other relatives and many friends.
