CENTRAL CITY — M. Maxine Teel, 90, of Central City died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home (south location) in Central City with her grandson Nick Owens officiating. Burial will be at Central City Cemetery.

Maxine (or “Tootie,” as her grandchildren preferred to call her) was born in Maryville, Mo., on June 25, 1925, to George Edward and Edna Marie (Markt) Alkire. On July 17, 1945, she married Lyle M. Teel to whom she was married for 70 years.

Maxine was raised in Maryville and in Nebraska City. She graduated from Nebraska City High School, and in 1945 she eloped to Kansas with her sweetheart, Lyle. Maxine and Lyle then moved to Central City, where they currently reside, in 1970. She spent most of her married life as a wife and mother until her children were in school. Then, she began to work various jobs, often for her husband. Maxine was well-known for her great pies and her fried chicken, which were the best.

Maxine was a devoted mother who always put her children first. She dearly loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She especially enjoyed staying in Comstock with her daughter Kathy and her family, and she developed many friends there. She and Lyle were especially close, particularly in the final years of her life when he was always by her side and took care of her every need.

Maxine loved and was loved by her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Max especially loved babies and puppies.

She was survived by her husband, Lyle; daughters, Kay Hodge of Kearney and Kathy and husband Dennis Johnson of Comstock; sons, Lyle L. and wife Laura Teel of Crete and Randy and wife Barbara Teel of Central City; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Lou Alkire, Elizabeth Sorenson and Anna Margaret Anderson; as well as two brothers and one sister who died in infancy.
