"Mary Watt was taken into the home of her father's brother and his mother and sister, James Watt the inventor of Edinburg, Scotland. She was educated in the fine arts of that day – painting, needlework, etc. Two pieces of her needlework are in the possession of her descendants and in fine condition after a hundred and fifty years. One show map of Europe and the other Killarney Castle as it was in 1805. They have won numerous highest awards whenever exhibited. With reluctance she parted with her uncle's family when her own family embarked to America."
--"George Watt of Xenia, the McClellans," 1947

The image above is one of the needleworks known to be completed by Mary Watt. It is believed to be Ross Castle in Killarney, Ireland. The image can be significantly enlarged by double-clicking on the photo. It can be magnified enough to see the stitches in many areas.

The 2nd image is of information posted on the back of the needlework. Family lore is that Mary Watt was related to James Watt, improver of the steam engine, but that has never been proven.
