Julia was the only child born to Martin Trowbridge and Cassie Anna Kizer, who married on 2 Oct 1910 in Marshall County. Julia made her appearance on 18 Sep 1911 while they were still living in Indiana.

On his 12 Sep 1918 WWI draft card, Martin, aged 36, reported that he was living in Berkshire, Tioga Co., New York, and that he was farming. Wife Cassie Anna was noted as next of kin. He was described as being of medium height, and of stout build, with gray eyes and dark brown hair. Julia would have been about six or seven years old at the time.

I found Martin and Anna (seemed to prefer) on the 1920 Census, living in Caroline, Tompkins Co., New York. Martin, aged 37, was in fact farming. Anna, aged 29, was home with 8-year-old Julia.

Sometime between 1920 and 1928, the family moved back to Indiana. Julia graduated at the top of her class at Lincoln H.S. in Plymouth in 1928.

In 1930 the family was living at 430 Pennsylvania Ave. in Plymouth. Martin, aged 48, had found a job as the foreman of a metal works. Anna, aged 39, was keeping house. Home with her was Julia, aged 18. After graduating from high school, Julia headed off to Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where she majored in Classic Studies, Latin in particular. She was a member of Eta Sigma Phi, the National Honorary Classical Fraternity/Sorority.

Julia decided to go into teaching, and first found a position at Tippecanoe where she worked for two years before being hired by Argos High School in 1934 to teach English and Physical Education. She would also teach math, Latin, sponsor the senior class, and direct school plays. Her name appeared regularly in the Argos Reflector. She was clearly and dedicated instructor.

Julia's family was still living in Plymouth when the 1940 Census came around. Martin, aged 58, was an engineer/fireman. Anna, aged 49, was keeping house. Julia, aged 28, was there as well.

On his 27 Apr 1942 WWII card, Martin, aged 60, reported that he was living at the 430 Pennsylvania Ave. address in Plymouth, and that he was working for McCord Radiator Co. in Plymouth. Daughter Julia Trowbridge was noted as the person who would always know his address.

On 2 Oct 1960, Julia's parents would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Sadly, her father Martin died sometime that same year at age 78 or 79. Her mother Anna only lived another four years without her helpmate and companion, departing this earth in 1964 at age 73 or 74. Both were laid to rest next Martin's parents. When Julia died in 1981, she was laid to rest next to her father.
