AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Peggy Sheram Caldwell, 78, of Kamel Circle, beloved wife of the late Joseph Lawton Caldwell, Jr., M.D., entered into rest on Sunday, August 13, 2006 at her residence. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Woodlawn United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dave Sargent officiating. Burial followed in Westover Memorial Park. Mrs. Caldwell, a native of Swainsboro, had lived in Augusta since 1948. She attended Georgia State College for Women before entering the School of Nursing at Emory University where she received a B.S. degree in nursing. Her last nursing was as the assistant to her husband in his surgical practice in Augusta before they both retired in 1990. Mrs. Caldwell served as a hospice volunteer, as a member and president of the Joymakers, was an active member of Woodlawn Methodist Church, and a long-time member of the Richmond County Medical Society Alliance where she founded and supported the Physician Wellness Fund. Survivors include her four sons, Joseph Lawton Caldwell, III., JD, RN (Terri) , John Price Caldwell, MD.(Alice), James Paul Caldwell, all of Augusta, and son, Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Roberts Caldwell, Ret.(Robin) of Virginia Beach, VA.; two daughters, Lee Ann Caldwell, PhD.(Richard) of Augusta, GA. and Claire Caldwell Wilkes of Orangeburg, SC.; ten grandchildren, Joseph Caldwell, IV, Kristin Caldwell, John Caldwell, Jr., Kate Caldwell, Beth Caldwell, Megan Caldwell, Alexandra Caldwell, Richard Caldwell Swann (Whitney), Lauren Palmer, and Casey Palmer, and one great grandson, Casey Palmer, Jr. Pallbearers were Mrs. Caldwell's sons, sons-in-law, and grandsons.
