Funeral services were held for Mrs. Lydia Ahrenholtz, 80 from the Salem Evangelical United Brethren church in Defiance March 15. Rev Robert Dragoo officiated at the services. Mrs. Milton Barry organist, accompanied Milton Barry who sang the hymns of comfort.

Pallbearers were Alvin Plotz, Will Rucker, Dan Ahrenholtz, Galen Ahrenholtz, David Ahrenholtz and Robert Ahrenholtz. Internment was in the Union Township cemetery at Defiance.

Lydia Hulsebus Ahrenholtz was born in Union Township, Shelby County on Jan 12 1885, the daughter of Peter Sr and Helena Weber Hulsebus. She died March 11, 1965 at the Myrtue Memorial hospital in Harlan at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 29 days. She was baptized in the Salem Evangelical United Brethren church in Defiance, and has been active and faithful member since. She was a charter member of the Ladies society, and she taught Sunday School classes for many years, and has also been the class leader for some years.

March 11 1905 she was united in marriage to Arthur Ahrenholtz at Defiance and to this union 2 sons were born, Lee of Defiance and Neal of Hot Springs Arkansas. They also took Mrs. Arlene Boldt, Marvin and George Brewster into their home and raised them until they finished school. Lydia was a member of the Irwin chapter #182, Order of the Eastern Star.

She is preceded in death by her husband on Feb 18, 1948, her parents and 1 sister, Mrs. Hannah Muller.

In addition to her sons, she is survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters (1) Tillie Ahrenholtz of Defiance, (2) Amanda Nelson of Newhall California and (3) Kate Hartmann of Oelrichs, SD and 3 brothers (1) Peter Jr Hulsebus of Lewis, (2) Alfred Hulsebus of Worthington Minnesota and (3) Ruddie Hulsebus of Defiance. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, many other relatives and trusted friends.
