Aaron Skinner was a captain in Geneseo, NY, in Col Lawrence's company of the New York Militia during the War of 1812. He saw service at Lundy's Lane.

He was the first school teacher in Nathaniel Rochester's "100 acre tract", the village that later became Rochester, NY.

Aaron was active in the underground railroad while he lived in Marysville, Ohio, with at least two of his sons, and they are said to have continued that activity after relocating to Battle Creek.
