On Oct 9, 1959, Acreen "Willie" Decker Jr. was born to Acreen Decker Sr., of the Western Band of Shoshone of Elko, Nevada and Merzel (Truchot) Decker of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes of Fort Hall, Idaho. He was a tribal member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes of Fort Hall, Idaho. "Willie" as his family and friends called him was raised and attended schools in Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello "Poky" High School in 1978 where he played football as tackle. After high school he attended Idaho State University for diesel mechanics. "Willie" had a love of cars, which would stay with him even after a vehicle accident paralyzed him, in approximately 1980. He struggled with his disability throughout his life, but lived longer than his doctors had originally predicted. "Willie" lived independently in the Pocatello and Fort Hall area for most of his life with help from his friends, neighbors and family members. On September 25, 2015 "Willie" passed away at the Portneuf Regional Medical Center in Pocatello from complications of pneumonia, but had been in deteriorating health for the past several years. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Bud and Isabel Decker of Battle Mountain, Nevada and Victor and Teola (Metz) Truchot of Ross Fork, Idaho. His mother, Merzel (Truchot) Decker, uncles Dennis Colter, Bernard Eschief and Martinez Decker, aunties Francine (Buckskin) Truchot, Bernadine (Decker) Ricker, Madeline (Decker) Eastman, Della (Decker) Diaz, Lilian (Decker) Bear and other relatives. "Willie" leaves behind numerous family and friends, including his father Acreen Decker Sr. of Elko, Nevada, sisters, LaNae "Beetle" Decker of Fort Hall and Janell (Decker) Thorpe of Pocatello. "Willie" wasn't able to have any of his own children, but raised a girlfriend's daughter "Barbara" and his niece Charice LaDawn Decker, had numerous other nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews. "Willie" will be taken to the Fort Hall Mission on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. and will remain there until 1:30 p.m on Thursday afternoon, at which time he will be transported for burial at the Ross Fork Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Family will receive family and friends during this time. Thanks in advance is given to all that would attend, and see "Willie" this last time. Arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to: www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
