Louise or Louisa was born in the gold mining town of Grass Valley, Nevada County, California in 1874 to Gedeon Baril and Mary unk. Louise and her dad both have had the spelling of their surname butchered on many occasions, and it's true in regards to her birth. The California County birth record and the Sacramento Daily Union in a birth announcement give the surname spelling as "Barrels". Louise' marriage record gives the spelling as "Berry". Her death certificate and daughter's marriage record, "Baril", which I believe to be the correct spelling. Perhaps "Barrels" was an Americanization.

I've given her date of birth as June 6th, 1874, but could equally have put June 5th. June 6th is from the Sacramento Daily Union birth announcement, and the California County birth record. Louise's transcribed death cert at Ancestry.com gives the date of June 5th.

Louise married Philias Poirier, son of Pierre Poirier and Adeliade Dion, and besides California, lived in Massachusetts and Michigan, and possibly elsewhere. They had 5 kids, and raised them in Michigan.
