Philias' travels took him to St Elzear and St-Pierre-Baptiste, Quebec; Manchester, NH; Fitchburg, MA; and Marquette, MI. In Canada, he grew up in a farming family and as a young man he also was a farmer. Farmers learn to do all kinds of trade other than farming (construction and blacksmithing), and I'm sure that was the case with them. When he arrived in Manchester, he went to work, like many French emigrants, for Amoskeag manufacturing. He was in the building industry with them as many of his siblings as they built the much needed housing that Amoskeag required for their workers. He and his brother Theodore resided together in Manchester and Fitchburg, MA. He was a stone cutter and his brother Theodore a plasterer.
On 18 Nov 1894 in Lowell, MA he married to Louise Baril and had five chiidren: Arthur, Leona, Aurora, Laura, and Philip. (profession: stone cutter). Arthur, the oldest, was born in Manchester in 1895 and by 1897 he's moved to Fitchburg. His brother joins him in 1898, and the 1901 city directory says simply, "removed to Michigan". The same year he's seen as a laborer on the Marquette city directory at 424 W. Superier. He's first listed as an stationary engineer in 1905. Perhaps he was in training during the previous four years, for it was a career change.
Attached is his birth record written in French stating his date of birth on 13 March 1868. He passed away at the Morgan Heights Sanitorium in Negaunee Township of "pulmonary tuberculosis". Burial took place on 25 Jun 1936.
