Age 91, died on Monday, December 29, 2003 at the Franciscan Care Center.

Sarah was born in Appleton on June 16, 1912, the daughter of the late August and Albertina (Brueggeman) Lietz. She was a graduate of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran School and also attended the Appleton Vocational School.

Sarah married George Wilson on February 23, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1965. Sarah married Paul Zimmerman on March 14, 1981. He preceded her in death on December 1, 2001. She was employed at Zwicker Knitting Mills and also worked as a Matron at Outagamie County Jail, until her retirement in 1977. Sarah was also a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary and the Menasha Senior Citizens Club.

She not only worked hard her whole life, but was a multi-talented, fun loving and unique woman. Sarah learned to play 5 instruments on her own. She sang with the "Sunshine Girls" and loved dancing at the Cinderella. Sarah also enjoyed decorating cakes, basket weaving, sewing and hooking rugs, quilt making, growing cotton and peanuts in her vegetable garden, writing poetry, yodeling and tap dancing. She then took up oil painting in her 70's.

Sarah will be greatly missed by her three daughters, Jerelyn (Ronald) Kositzke and their children, Scott and Bonnie Kositzke; Judith Ziebell and her children, Tara (Ken) Ebben, Rick, Mike and Tom Melchert; Vicki (Guy) Martinek and their children, Anneli and Brandon, who is serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in Japan; her brother, Alvin Lietz; her sister, Ruth (Clarence) Pennings; great-grandchildren, Jamie (Ryan) Page and Timothy Kositzke; Kirsten and Melissa Melchert; Mikayla and Mitchell Ebben; and great-great-grandchildren, Autumn and Emily Page. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Sarah was preceded in death by her five sisters, infant Rose; Clara Meyer; Mabel Broehm; Natalie Kain; Sylvia Michaelis; four brothers, Werner, Fredrick "Fritz", Detective Erwin Leitz and Norman Leitz; and son-in-law, Kenneth Ziebell.

The funeral service will be held at Noon, on Friday, January 2, 2004 at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 North Morrison Street, Appleton, with Rev. Ralph C. Waack officiating. Visitors will be received at the church on Friday, January 2 from 11 until 11:45 a.m. The interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caring staff at Franciscan Care Center, who treated her with respect and dignity.
