Professional Football Player. Born Stephen Frank Meilinger, he played end for the National Football League's Washington Redskins, Green Bay Packers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1956 to 1961. He attended the University of Kentucky and played under the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant from 1951 to 1953 where he was a three time All-American while playing several positions. Meilinger was drafted in the first round of the 1954 NFL draft, but decided to go into the army where he served as a Tank Commander in the 100th Tank Battalion of the First Armored Division. He returned to professional football in 1956 and played six seasons until injuries forced him to retire. Meilinger was a member of 1960 Green Bay Packers when they played the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFL Championship. After football, he served as a U.S. marshal and then became a Property Valuation Officer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
