Francis Tarrant was born April 21st, 1862, the youngest child and only son of William Tarrant and his wife Martha Fairleigh. When Francis was just 4 months old, his father William Tarrant left home to service in Co K of the 98th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. Sadly, William died in January of 1863 of lung fever at the Regimental Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN and was buried at Stones River National Cemetery near there. Francis died soon after between June of 1863 and September of 1864 at the age of just one or two. I have not found a stone for him at Rentfrow Cemetery, but assume he would have been buried here along with other family members.
