Artimeas Tarrant was born October 22, 1854 in Effingham Co, IL, the second daughter of William and Martha Ann Fairleigh Tarrant. Her father was a Union soldier during the Civil War and died at Murfreesboro, TN in 1863 when Artimeas was just nine years old. Her mother Martha remarried Joshua N. Doyle the next year. Joshua Doyle was her father's cousin, and had fought on the Confederate side. Joshua moved from Tennessee to Illinois after the War, and became a teacher in Effingham County. Artimeas's mother Martha and Joshua Doyle had 2 more children, Albert and Hybernia. In May of 1866, Joshua had an altercation at a saloon with a German barber, Nicholas Dausch which resulted in Joshua killing the barber. He was sent to jail, but later made his escape along with several other prisoners. He fled to Tennessee, and his wife Martha and his 2 children (Albert and Hybernia) also moved to Tennessee and were found living with his mother in Lewis County in 1870. Another daughter, Caledonia Doyle was born in 1872. Joshua stayed in hiding as a fugtive for several years, but later became a well-respected doctor in the Hickman County area. In the early 1880's there was an effort made to extradite him back to Illinois to stand trial, but the governor of Tennessee refused to approve due to the crime being committed so many years before and at a time when feeling were still strong between the North and the South after the Civil war. So, the case was dropped.
When their mother moved to Tennessee to be with her husband, Artimeas and her Tarrant siblings (Mary Jane, Ellen "Nellie", and Sarah) all stayed in Effingham County, living with their grandfather Newton Tarrant until his death in 1869.
On November 3rd, 1870, Artimeas age 16, was married Allen Decatur Webb. They had children:
Emerson Decatur Webb (1872-1966)
Harriet Ellen "Hattie" Webb (1876-1968)
Lillie Haney Webb (1879-1880)

Artimeas died October 8th, 1879 (possibly in childbirth with youngest daughter Lillie) and just before her 25th birthday and was buried here at Rentfrow Cemetery. Her husband Allen Decatur Webb was remarried in 1881 to Mary Ann Springer and had 9 more children: Lydia, Blanche, Arthur, Harry, Tracy, Della, Ferne, Minnie, and Lucy Webb.
