GEORGE "RAINBOW" BIVENS, age 82, of Vanceburg, Kentucky, passed away Monday August 31, 2015 at 3:10 p.m. at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Rainbow was born in Petersville, Kentucky, July 23, 1933 to the late Horace and Nellie Cooper Bivens. Rainbow worked for the City of Vanceburg since 1960. Rainbow was the foreman for the Water and Gas Department until 1994. He was then hired as a consultant for the sewer plant to locate water lines and to read meters. He was working presently with Distal Construction with the sewer and water that is being replaced on the south end of Vanceburg.

George was a member of the First Baptist Church here in Vanceburg and was also a Kentucky Colonel in which he received this honor in 2008. His favorite pastime was to go to Steve's Market and visit everyone that came in. He always had a smile for everyone. He was a loving father and grandfather. George was a veteran of the United States Army in which he so proudly served during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are 4- Daughters- Diane Burriss of Pebbles, Ohio, Peggy (Mark) Hunt and Lisa (Kerry) Theiss both of Vanceburg, Kentucky, and Brenda (Gordon) Perkins of Lake City, Florida.

2-Sons- Raymond C. Bivens of McDermott, Ohio and Roger Bivens of Hudson, Florida.

Nine Grandchildren and 4- Great-grandchildren also survive who will mourn his passing.

Preceded in death beside his parents was his wife Shirley Ann Taulbee in 2004 and a brother- Carl Bivens.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. September 3, 2015 at the Gaydos Funeral Home with Dr. Howard Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens, Black Oak, Kentucky.

Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:00 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 2nd Street, Vanceburg, Kentucky, 41179.

Military graveside rites will be accorded by the V.F.W. Post 5438 Monte Lewis Stamm, Vanceburg, Kentucky.

Vanceburg Utilitiy employees will serve as pallbearers.
