Joseph Wesley 'Joe' Risinger, 89, known as 'pappy,' died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at his residence.

Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home was to conduct services at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, in Mt. Olive Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronald 'Buddy' Barnett officiating. Burial was to be in Mt. Olive Cemetery.

A life-long resident of the Mt. Olive community, he was born there May 9, 1909, to J. J. and Ozelle Barnett Risinger.

He attended school at Mt. Olive. On Oct. 17, 1927, he married Doris Allen in McKinney.

He was an active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Blossom Masonic Lodge. He was self-employed through the years in cookie sales and distribution.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Doris 'Mud' Risinger of the Mt. Olive community; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Shirley Risinger of Paris and Philip and Lacrecia Risinger of Mt. Olive; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tommy Risinger of Mt. Olive and James Risinger of McKinney; and a sister, Ruby Lunceford of Cartwright, Texas.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandchild.

Named to serve as pallbearers were Bobby Risinger, Billy Risinger, W. L. 'Dub' Risinger, Charles Boren, Norris Ballard and Jerry Thrasher.
