Esther Marion Stigers was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She lived in Cleveland for 34 years before moving to Southern California in 1958. She graduated from West Polytechnic High School in 1942. On November 29, 1949 she married Paul Earl Stigers. They were married for 26 years until his death in 1975. Paul and Esther had five children – Paula, Leslie, Gordon, Lorraine, and Raymond. At the time of her death she had 7 grandchildren - Christopher Stigers, Eric Bowen, Paul Stigers, Natalie Bowen, Matthew Hauske, Timothy Hauske, and Candace Stigers. She died at the age of 74 after an extended illness.
