Dorothy Groff Allgyer peacefully went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Landis Homes, Lititz, PA.

She was the second wife to Melvin Allgyer Sr., who preceded her in death in 2010. Dorothy, a daughter of the late Roy and Ellen Groff, was born on a dairy farm on July 4, 1941, in Paradise Township. After graduating from Lancaster Mennonite High School in 1960, Dorothy worked in Miami, FL, and in Lancaster County as a chair-side dental assistant until 1996. Dorothy married Melvin Allgyer on July 20, 1996.

A talented oil-painter, Dorothy enjoyed God’s creation and relating to people through phone calls. Most recently a member of Millport Mennonite Church in Leola, Dorothy was always very active in the church and in other volunteer work.

Surviving are Melvin’s six children: Anna Weaver of Lancaster; Michael married to Debra Wenger Allgyer of Reading; Esther married to Nelson Zeiset of Newmanstown; Melvin married to Nancy Lehman Allgyer of Harrisburg; James married to Charlotte Zeiset Allgyer of Denver; Nancy married to James Metzler of Peach Bottom; 25 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.

Surviving also are Dorothy’s three brothers: Charles Groff married to Janet Denlinger of Kinzers; John Groff married to Gretta Sollenberger of Gordonville; and Richard Groff married to Beverly Irons of Strasburg as well as five nephews and three nieces.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 10:30 AM in the Millport Mennonite Church, 820 Log Cabin Road, Leola, PA. Viewing will take place on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the West Bethany Chapel of Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543, and Tuesday from 9:30 AM until time of service at the church. Interment will be made in the Myerstown Mennonite Cemetery, Myerstown, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Landis Homes Caring Fund, at Landis Homes.
