Betty Krider Hayes, affectionately known as Mama Betty, age 87, of Boone, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation. Born February 1, 1928 in Todd, she was a daughter of the late Dick and Ada Krider. She was a loving wife and homemaker to her late husband Buck Hayes and their children.
Betty was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church where she served wherever she was needed. She loved children and served in the nursery for years. She also kept children in her home and they all called her Mama Betty.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Hayes and wife Fay of Hendersonville, NC and Tim Hayes and wife Lisa of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters, Deanna Wilkerson of Forest City, NC and Sarah Hayes and husband Bill Sullivan of Wellfleet, Massachusetts; a sister, Joan Weaver of West Jefferson, NC; a brother Jasper Krider of Washington state; nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Buck Hayes, her parents Dick and Ada Krider; a grandson, Todd Hayes; four brothers: James, Charles, Tom & Jack Krider; and by two sisters, Irene Miller and Nell Eller.
Funeral Services for Betty Krider Hayes will be conducted Saturday, August 29, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Bud Russell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 until 11:00 AM at Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
