Sarah "Jane" Thompson JACKSON was one of my 4th great grandmothers. DAR records state that Sarah's father was Capt. Alexander Thompson and her mother was Agness Watson. However another source indicates that her father was a William Thompson ("History of Apollo, 1816-1916, by T J Henry, MD, page 39) and he may have been the man of that name who belonged to Col. Lochery's ill fated little army, which was annihilated by the Indians and who was never again heard of.
Her mother, Agness Watson who after the death of Alexander/or William, in 1780, married a second time to Nathaniel McBrier/McBryar. Both Agness and Nathaniel are buried in "Old" Poke Run Cemetery, Washington township, Westmoreland County,PA.
Sarah Jane was probably the oldest child and she had at least three other siblings, Samuel, Elizabeth and William.
Sarah was married to James JACKSON of Armstrong County, PA on 27 May, 1790 and became the mother of seven chldren, five of whom lived to adulthood. They were John (1797-1853)who married Elizabeth J McCartney, Sarah/Sally (1800-1863) who married J R McKinstry, William (1804-1848)who married Jane Hall, James (1806-1865) who married Jane McCartney and Thompson (1810-1848)who married Catherine Eakenam.
When Sarah died her funeral happened at the time of an extraordinary fall of snow and it was with the greatest difficulty that the body was conveyed to the burial ground.
She was buried in the Warren Cemetery (behind the Apollo Presbyterian Church). When this cemetery was paved over her tombstone along with her husbands was removed to Apollo Memorial (aka Apollo Presbyterian Church Cemetery) (Kiskiminetas Twp) Armstrong Co., PA
