Graveside services for Marie Parks Davison, age 86, of Bastrop will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop with the Rev. Dick Day officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1 p.m. till 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop.

Marie Parks Davison was born July 20, 1917, in Spencer, Louisiana and died Tuesday June 1, 2004 at the home of her daughter. She was preceded in death by her husband William Raymon "Ray" Davison; her parents, John Jefferson and Addie Bird Parks; two sisters, Helen Parks Rushing and Catherine Parks Pace.

Mrs. Davison received her undergraduate degree from the Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (now, Louisiana Tech University) and her Master's degree from Northeast Louisiana University (now, University of Louisiana, Monroe). In addition, she studied at Auburn University and held plus thirty hours designation in her degree field. She was the first reading specialist in the Morehouse Parish School system where she taught for forty-one years retiring at the age of fifty-eight. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Bastrop, the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, and Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority.

Mrs. Davison is survived by her daughter, Brenda Chappell and husband Harold of Bastrop; a son, Doug Davison and wife Lou of Ruston; seven grandchildren, Fran Johnson and husband Keith and Matt Chappell all of Bastrop, Laurie Barnes and husband Greg of Fayettville, North Carolina, Paul Davison and wife Johnna, John Davison, Amy Meek and husband Roscoe, all of Shreveport, Mark Davison and wife Lucia of Eustis, Florida; eleven great-grandchildren, Hillary Sawyer, Kate and Claire Barnes, Sutton and Layne Davison, Emma, Sarah, and Sam Meek, Natalie, Dominic, and Jack Davison; three nieces, Rayna Jo Fullington and husband Vern, Diane Ball and husband Jerry all of Bastrop, and Edwyna Testerman of Longview, Texas; one nephew John Pace and wife Bonnie of Avinger, Texas; and Sally Jones Davison of Shreveport; several great nieces and nephews and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Matt Chappell, Paul Davison, John Davison, Mark Davison, Keith Johnson, Roscoe Meek, and Greg Barnes.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Carter Cox, Morehouse General Hospital Home Health, Betty Hubbard, and Rose Hobbs for their loving care.

For those who wish planned memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bastrop or the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe.
