Funeral services for Julius Unrau were held at the First English Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 1993, at Spencer, Iowa. Pastor Wayn Quandt and Pasto Chris Gugel officiated.

Interment was at [West] Prairie View in Paullina, Iowa under the direction of the Baumgarten Funeral Home.

Julius Unrau, son of Julius and Anna Less Unrau, was born January 10, 1914 in Kaluga, Russia. His childhood years were spent in East Prussia in Germany where he received his early education. On October 24, 1928, his family immigrated to America, arriving on November 11, 1928, and making their home in Martinsburg, Nebraska. In 1938 he went to work on a farm near Paullina, Iowa.. He was inducted into the military during World War II and served until his discharge in 1942.

Julius married Doretta Holck on June 15, 1943 in Germantown, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed near Royal and Spencer where they lived until moving into Spencer in 1976. Throughout his time in Spencer, he worked extensively with the Clay County Fair, working full time as a grounds superindtendentuntil his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, and had been very active in all of the churches he has attended throughout his life, including singing in the choir, the LLL, many church offices as well as Sunday School Superintendent.

Mr. Unrau passed away at his home in Spencer on April 21, 1993 at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 half-brothers: Fred, Emil and Adolf Schoenrock; one half-sister, Lydia Schoenrock, and two brothers. Theodore and Reinhold Unrau.

He is survived by his wife, Doretta of Spencer; one sister, Amanda (Mrs Albert) Beermann of Denver, Colorado; other relatives and friends.
