Rochelle Yancey Phillips, 68, passed away July 15, 2004, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville. Born in Scott County, April 4, 1936, she was preceded in the death by her parents, Arthur and Truie Yancey; her husband, Hoyel “Bud” Phillips; two sisters, Shirley Raines and Brenda Boshears; four brothers-in-law: Austin Phillips, L.C. Phillips, Jr., Morgan Rector, and Don Boshears; mother- and father-in-law, L.C. and Bertha Phillips; and special aunt, Pina Jeffers. She taught in the Scott County School System for 33 years; and was Scott County’s Mother of the Year in 1996. She was a member of the Eastern Star; served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 20 years, and was an active member of White Rock Baptist Church and was an active member of the youth and adult choirs. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, educator, community worker and servant to Scott County for 68 years. She also sang with Bro. Jim’s Singing Group. She is survived by two sons: Ronald “Pete” Phillips and wife, Sue, and Alton Scott Phillips and wife, Derita, all of Annadell; one daughter, Sandra Darlene Sproles and husband, Jack, of Annadell; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, special aunt, Mable Thompson; special friends: Connie Chitwood, Arthona Coffey, Mary Jo Noble, Janice Harness, and Chloe Jeffers; special in-laws: Jerry Willard and Cara Sue Thompson of Huntsville, Bernice Jones and husband, Bert, of Ohio, Edith Rector of Virginia, Diane Newport and husband, David, of Oak Ridge, Myrtle Kennedy and husband, Ralph, and Loretta Mc-Guire and husband, John, all of Huntsville, Defoe Phillips and wife, Sue, of Ohio, and Denzil Phillips and wife, Sandra, Ervin Phillips and wife, Lila, and Dana Phillips, and wife, Marilyn, all of Huntsville, and Esco Raines and wife, Penny, of Caryville; numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted July 18, at White Rock Baptist Church with Bro. Jim West, Bro. Ashley Ellis, and Bro. Denzil Phillips officiating. Music was provided by White Rock Baptist Church Youth and Adult Choirs, Kristi and Ciera, and Bro. Jim’s Singing Group. Internment followed in Bud Phillips Family Cemetery in Annadell.
