Moses Whittington was the son of John W. Whittington and Chloe Mercer, and he was a grandson of Revolutionary War veteran Cornelius Whittington (1749-1837)

and his wife Rebecca.

Moses married Nancy Youngblood, daughter of Robert D. Youngblood and Polly Smith, on November 14, 1836 in Amite County, Mississippi and they had six children. Moses and Nancy moved from Amite Co. MS to Caddo Parish, Louisiana circa 1843-46.

After the death of his first wife Moses married Margaret Stuckey, daughter of William M. Stuckey and Susan (Pipkin?), on March 15, 1857 in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. Moses and Margaret moved to Sulphur Fork, Arkansas and by 1876 they were parents of ten children.

Moses died prior to the 1880 census and was most likely buried on the Whittington family home place which is now part of the Bethsaida Cemetery in Ida, Caddo Parish, Louisiana or in the Evergreen Cemetery, Miller County, Arkansas.
